Kindergarten. School. The real world. Growing up. These things are all happening...now. I am not sad. I'm not sure if I'm normal, actually I'm certain I'm not...but I'm just not sad that Garrity is starting school. I'm incredibly proud and excited and overwhelmed, those things are true, but just not sad. Too many emotions were drained that day five years ago, when I had to leave my precious, innocent, vulnerable little baby girl at Sally's for the first time. That was gut wrenching, painful, terrible, awful, unfair, unnecessary---all of those things, and yes, I was sad. Now, when I see my beautiful, bright-eyed, smart, kind, soft spoken (sometimes), polite, excited, and most importantly EAGER to learn; student...I am just so crazy-mad excited for my little girl!!! I know she will shine at school! I know she is craving new friendships and to learn!
The first day of school started (for me) at about 4:00am! I had to make a trip to Walmart to gather the missing ingredients needed to make Garrity's lunch for the first day of school: tuna noodle casserole! I have also been yearning for the day that I would be able to celebrate the first day of school with a festive breakfast celebration! I've been watching a friend from my ANF days decorate her dining room table for years, and I've been making mental notes and eagerly awaiting the day that I too could surprise my kiddos with a back-to-school celebration! The table was adorned with balloons, school supplies, streamers, donuts, etc.
Garrity's back to school outfit was a hit--Janie and Jack tweed shorts with matching jacket--superb kindergarten style ;)
Daddy took Grantham to Sally's and Garrity and I took off for Bryan Elementary school (the same school daddy and I both started our scholarly journey) and met daddy outside for the obligatory first-day-of-school pics! As we entered the threshold and were greeted by many familiar faces, Garrity bumped right into one of her long time pals from Sally's-Halle Hawks! We snapped a quick picture and it was off to the end of the hall and to the left: Mrs. Watts' Classroom! The craziest thing about this whole kindergarten adventure is that Mrs. Watts just happens to have a Wizard of Oz themed room! That means that not only is her room totally decked out in Wizard of Oz decor...but all of her lessons/worksheets/etc. are Wizard of Oz theme! G s in the absolute perfect classroom!
My most favorite memory and moment from the morning was when Garrity handed Mrs. Watts her apple :) It was the most adorable and perfect moment...in every single way possible :)
Such a wonderful season of life!
