The morning started with Garrity calling for mommy! Daddy went in
and tried to console her, he told her that mommy was resting. But I went in and
snuggled her and we talked about whether or not we thought baby Bingo would be
born today!
Daddy was off work because of the events of yesterday. Daddy had a
dentist appointment, and I took Garrity to Sally's. I chatted with Sally
for a while and hugged Garrity a dozen times before heading out.
Daddy called when I left and we decided I should run errands first
and then come home so we could watch a movie, walk the course again, and work
in your room.
So off to Walmart! I got the essentials and tried to print
pictures off my phone (with no luck!?). I started to feel the most minor
twinges of what I had felt yesterday. So I sent daddy a text telling him that
Walmart was working, and I was going to continue to wander around.
After I checked out I left and then remembered I was supposed to
get a Red Box movie. I turned around by Pizza Hut and headed back. I rented two
recent award winning movies: American Hustle and .
While inside I decided to
randomly go ahead and grab some chips (big bag from the back of the store) and
was starting to feel a tad bit slower, kinda like yesterday. So I headed out to
the car again. When I got home, I pulled up the garage and left my car outside
so I could lift the back and get my groceries. When I raised my arm to pull the
lift gate I felt a little ploop and what felt like the first gush of a period.
I knew immediately that my water had just broke or had just broken. I wasn’t
sure if the pain would immediately start or if it would be gradual. I had been
wearing pad for several days and
therefore the little gush was quite contained.
I waddled on into the house and
called for Bo, shared my exciting news with a smile, and headed to the bathroom.
I then called Dr. Russell and she said to go on into the ER and they would
admit me etc. I had just gotten tuna from Subway and chips and some snacks for
our day of rest…so Bo and I scarfed down our lunch, took a few pre-baby pics
and headed to the hospital…movies and snacks in tow! The car ride was quite
uncomfy. ANY pressure (think:sitting in a car) was not pleasant…so I kind of
rested on my elbow while we drove to the hospital.
My ER experience this time was much different. We first went in to
admissions and they told us that we HAD to go through the ER. With Garrity I
was doubling over in pain and had to rush deliriously to the bathroom to dry
heave into the dirty toilet!? With this baby, I was cool, calm, and collected
and in zero to very minimal pain. I told the lady what she needed to know and
was very alert etc. A nice male nurse came to escort us to the elevator and up
to the maternity ward. He even commented on how calm we were and that this must
not be our first go-round J
Once we were in our suite, the nurse came in and gave me a gown to
put on. I stepped into the bathroom and changed and then snapped a few photos
of our room! I felt totally in control and wanted to savor the moments of the
day forever! With Garrity I was so out of it, that I don’t remember so many of
the details, and details I do remember were made up because they never happened
according to Bo!
The nurse checked me and put a heart rate monitor on my tummy
and the nurse was immediately concerned about the baby’s heart rate! She had me
drink an entire little jug of water and started an IV with fluids. I was
dilated to a 4, so the nurse and I worked out a play to keep the meds at bay
until I was in dire need.
My goal was 3:30 and so I had anand a half or so to
wait and enjoy some down time. Bo pulled out our laptop and popped in one of
the movies and we proceeded to have our little date! As the movie progressed,
my labor pains also progressed.
Around 3:00pm I was starting to feel a little
more than uncomfortable and asked for the shot of meds in my IV. The nurse
explained that the meds would make me feel a little woozy…she said maybe like a
couple of glasses of wine before dinner. Whoa was she a little wrong!!! I felt
like I was floating and sleepy and carsick all in one! I think it affected the
baby too because we would both seem to doze off and then my contractions would hit
and the baby would jolt awake and the pain from the jolt was pretty intense. I
tried to doze off and want to sleep so bad…but the fear of the jolt was pretty
awful.
Finally it was pretty intense and I asked for the nurse to come back in
and I was ready for the epidural…I was sure of it. So, she made the call and I
had to wait. I leaned into the counter and laid my hands on the counter and
tried to put my head down and tried to stretch out and relieve some of the
pressure. I leaned over the bed and tried everything to relieve the pressure. I
tried to sway from side to side and the pain was mostly in my bottom and my
lower back and thighs.
The nurse told me
to visit the restroom prior to the epidural and it was pretty painful to sit on
the potty, and pretty painful to walk, then when the anesthesiologist came in
and asked me to SIT ON THE BED, I was pretty sure that was a request that I wouldn't be able to fulfill! Somehow though, I was able to get up on the edge
of the bed and I was asked to lean forward into Bo and wait for the pain to
melt away. I was just praying that I could hold still through another
contraction and also praying that the epidural would actually work. It did!
Once the epidural was complete, the nurse came back in and checked
me…I was dilated to a NINE!!! The nurse said that it was no wonder it was tough
for me to sit on the bed…that the baby’s head was there and he was ready to
come out! She also told me that the baby was a little distressed and asked me
to roll over to one side and they gave me some oxygen, and the baby was fine.
The nurse called Dr. Russell and they wheeled in a baby cart at
4:50pm and it was baby time! When Dr. Russell came in, I was ready! I requested
a mirror again, and wanted to have our phone ready for videos and pictures!
The
actual pushing was a breeze and we met our beautiful baby Grantham Scott Bishop
at 5:16pm 3/15/14!
The video clip is amazing!!!
